The report of the disciplinary committee that removed five members from the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) following a full disciplinary inquiry is available online to the public, Government Medical Officers’ Association Secretary Dr. Senal Fernando said. Dr. Fernando said the General Committee of the GMOA met on Monday (7) and decided to follow up the issue until the wrongdoers are punished for the offences revealed in the report, adding that they misused their powers while acting as members of the SLMC during the former Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne ‘s time. GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr. Samantha Ananda said Health Minister, Pavithra Wanniarachchi used the powers vested by the Medical Council Ordinance No. 24 of 1924 and removed them after the Disciplinary Committee inquired into the complaints received against them and presented a full report.
The former Health Minister appointed his henchmen sans any qualifications to the SLMC while Minister Wanniarachchi appointed the Dean of the Colombo Medical Faculty, Professors and Consultants to the SLMC as members, he added.
