LPL to name sixth team honouring the east

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has decided to add one more team to the existing five which will be named in honour of the eastern province at the next Lanka Premier League (LPL) tournament to add more glamour and scheduled to be played from July 27 to August 19, an official of SLC said.

They also hope to make some changes to include what they call icon A grade players like Chris Gayle, Kane Williamson, Faf Du Plessis and more foreigners ti lift the LPL to greater heights while the prize money will also be increased.

Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa said that the inaugural LPL was a great success amid the Covid-19 pandemic and was glad it was made possible with the united efforts of the people from different districts to project Sri Lanka as one nation.

Jaffna Stallions won the inaugural LPL beating Galle Gladiators in the final last week.
