The number of accidents during the New Year celebrations in Sri Lanka had reduced by 60 percent compared to last year, health officials said. Sources from the Colombo National Hospital said that 111 accidents were reported to the hospital on December 31 and January 1, a 60 percent drop from the beginning of 2020.
Of the 111 accidents reported, there were four fireworks accidents, 24 road accidents, 21 others and 53 accidents in homes and workplaces. Of these, 60 are still receiving treatment at the hospital, sources said.
