The 68th National Badminton Championship 2020 which was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic will get off to a start on February 10 and continue till February 14. The Championship will be held at two venues, the SL Badminton stadium and MBA stadium with 35 events, 17 singles and 18 doubles scheduled to be conducted during these five days of activity.
All top ranked players are expected to take part in the most prestigious event of the year with the aim of winning a National title while title holders will fight to retain their titles.
All these categories are to be competed under different age groups except the Men’s and Women’s Open and Men’s, Women’s Open Doubles and Open Mixed Doubles. The Boys and Girls in junior categories will play in Under 15, 17 and 19 age categories.
The other age groups that will play in the Championship are 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65 and 70 while in the women’s singles there will be only the 40 age class in action.
Women in the age groups of 40 and 50 are expected to appear in the women’s doubles category. Meanwhile in the women’s singles only the 40 year age class will be in action at the Championship.
The main sponsors for the 68th National Badminton Championship 2020 are Li Ming and McLarens Group of Companies.
In addition to trophies and medals, cash prizes amounting to Rs. 1,000,000 also will be on offer among winners.
Entries should be forwarded to reach the Sri Lanka Badminton Association, Maitland Place, Colombo 07 before January 29 along with Entry fees. The scheduled to be held on February 6 and the final draw list will be displayed on the notice board at the SLBA and also can be viewed through SLB web site www.srilankabadminton.lk.
