Motor Racing flags off with Eliyakanda Hill Climb

14 February, 2021

The 25th Eliyakanda Hill Climb will mark the opening of the motor racing events for the year 2021 on February 27 and 28.

This was the only motor racing event conducted in 2020 just a few weeks before the Covid-19 crisis propped up halting all sporting activities.

The Eliyakanda Hill Climb organised by Southern Motor Sports Club has conducted this particular event since the formation of the club 25 years ago.

According to the President of the SMSC Ashhar Hameem this year’s event will run over two days under strict health guidelines stipulated by the Health Authorities and the Sports Ministry. Considering the health guidelines the Organizing Committee has decided to restrict the number of crew members of drivers and riders to two persons. They also have made arrangements to run Motorcycle events on day one and the car events on day two with the intention of minimizing the spectator attendance. Previous events were held on a single day with the grand finale for all to enjoy it on a grand manner.

This year’s event is named as SLT Speedup as Sri Lanka Telecom has come forward as the main sponsor.

Entries for Eliyakanda Hill Climb will close on February 19 and drivers and riders are requested to forward their entries to the Secretary, Southern Motor Sports Club or through www.smsc.lk website.

No late entries will be accepted, said Hameem.
