Driving licences: Validity period extended

A Gazette Extraordinary has been issued extending the validity period of driving licences which were due to expire between April 1 and September 30 of this year. A six-month extension has been granted for driving licences from the original date of expiry.

The Gazette notification, signed by Minister of Transport Gamini Lokuge, was published on April 1.

The regulations cited as Motor Traffic (Temporary Extension of the Validity Period of Driving Licence), was made by the Transport Minister under the provisions of the Motor Traffic Act.

The regulations will not apply to licences where the validity period has already been extended.
