‘Family Run Saturday’ organised by the Sports Ministry and Sportrizen LSR held its maiden yesterday from the Race Course ground at Reid Avenue in Colombo to focus on physical fitness for a healthy society.
Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa who took part in the inaugural run with his wife Limini said the event will provide a platform for an enhanced sporting nation and hope it will continue without a break every Saturday morning and snowball into the provinces as well.
The participants have to run a distance of five kilo metres.
“Earlier we started the ‘Sunday Cycle Program’ and it was very successful and now this Family Run Saturday program will open up for families and our aim is to promote this to develop the fitness of the people and parents will have to encourage their children”, said Minister Rajapaksa.
