Left hand opening batsman, Johanne Peiris (59 with 8 fours and a six) steered Lanka Cavaliers to a thrilling four wickets win over Ambalangoda Masters in their annual 30-overs-a-side cricket encounter played on April 4 at Ambalangoda.

Lanka Cavaliers chasing a challenging total of 216 runs to win in 30 overs reached their target in 28.5 overs thanks to Johanne Peiris’ solid batting performance.

Peiris was engaged in two productive partnerships, a 55 runs opening stand with Sujith Perera (38) and 95 runs for the second wicket with Wasanthalal Fernando (32).

Suranjith Dharmasena put the finishing touches by remaining unbeaten on 39 runs.

The Ambalangoda Masters would have scored much more if not for the excellent fielding performance of Susan Bandara, who certainly saved more than 20 runs for the Lanka Cavaliers.

Ambalangoda Masters: 215/9 (30) (Saman Mohan 40, Sriyan Hewawasam 58, Indika Peiris 27, RM Jayantha 18, Lal Ranasinghe 18 n.o. Manoj Perera 3/35, Asoka de Silva 2/45, Krishan Dharmasena 3/41)

Lanka Cavaliers: 219/6 (28.5) (Sujith Perera 38, Johanne Peiris 59, Wasanthalal Fernando 32, Suranjith Dharmasena 39 n.o. Sudarshana Guruge 18, Ruwan Pushpakumara 2/29)
