Yehani Kuruppu (Visakha) and Ilham Osmone (DS Senanayake) emerged boys and girls champions respectively at the Sri Lanka Junior Open Squash Championship, held at the SSC squash courts recently.
A keen contest was witnessed in the boys under-19 final between Ilham and Nevindu Lakman that went up to four sets. Nevindu Lakman also from DS Senanayake won the first set 12-10 in a stiff battle but Ilham made a fine come back winning the last three sets 11/4, 11/6 and 11/8.
The girls under-19 final between Yehani and Wanithma Sinali (Visakha) also went to four sets. Yehani Kuruppu lost the first set 9-11. But fought back strongly to win the next three sets 11/9, 15/3, 11/7.
Assistant General Manager of Bank of Ceylon Rajith Thushantha was the chief guest at the awards ceremony.
