Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) who emerged champions in the Major Club Limited Overs tournament attributed their success to the commitment of their team and the part played well by their youngsters.

This was revealed by their captain Angelo Perera whose personal contribution during the tournament was 394 runs inclusive of a ton and two fifties. “I had a big challenge to take up with more youngsters in the side. Despite playing without five of our main players who were ill or injured and four players who were doing national duty, the youngsters played superbly to remain unbeaten,” said Perera.

“Kamil Mishara, Kaveen Bandara, Chamika Karunaratne, Nimesh de Silva, Shan Arachchighe, Ashen Daniel and Yugeesha Dilshan all of them played to their best while experienced Upul Tharanga, Chathuranga de Silva and myself were there for guidance,” added Perera.

Their batting throughout the tournament was very consistent scoring over 300 runs three times. Kamil Mishara, Upul Tharanga, Hasitha Boyagoda and Angelo Perera scored centuries in this tournament. Mishara was superb with three centuries and this wicket keeper batsman was a bonus to their batting line-up. This was the second major title NCC has won and they twice finished as runners-up during the last four years under the leadership of Angelo Perera.

“Our game plan really worked well in this tournament and we have to give full credit to our head coach Duminda Perera and Manjula Fernando and the cricket committee members Hashan Tillekaratne and Marlon Ranasinghe for the excellent job they had done,” said Perera.

He was also full of praise for Chamika Karunaratne who played one Test match against Australia and took four wickets against Ragama CC in the final.
