On April 22 - World Earth Day –Cargills (Ceylon) PLC, planted trees at its Colpetty Food City outlet in support of the Colombo Municipal Council’s “Let’s Save a Tree for Colombo” green project. Jointly initiated by the CMC and the Ministry of Environment, this tree planting program aims to improve Colombo’s ambient air quality and also contribute towards curbing climate change.

Air pollution is a global crisis that carries adverse long-term health effects for people and predominantly originates from urban agglomerates. Urbanization comes with its own unique benefits and drawbacks, and Colombo being the urban development hub of Sri Lanka, heavily contributes to the country’s air pollution due to the city’s rapidly increasing pollutant emissions.

A natural remedy to this growing concern is to simply plant more trees to improve the quality of air.

As a company driven by a strong commitment towards sustainability, Cargills extends its full support to the CMC in their effort to improve air quality.

To take this national cause forward, Cargillspledges to planting trees at other outlet car parks and will sponsor trees on major roads within Colombo.
