Navod Paranavithana who emerged as the Observer SLT-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the year 2020 was honoured by his school Mahinda College Galle at a felicitation ceremony held last Thursday.

Old boys, present boys and the staff of Mahinda College organized this felicitation ceremony under the patronage of school principal Gamini Jayawardena.

“Navod has displayed his capabilities to climb the ladder to higher levels in the school cricket arena and is an asset to Mahinda College. His dedication will pass on to the young Mahindians in the future,” said Jayawardena.

The felicitation was attended by his parents, father Kelum and mother Deepthi, along with a distinguished old boy Nalin Herath who is the Chairman and Managing Director of Home Lands Holdings who has stood by Navod as a sponsor from his young days. The aggressive left handed batsman Paranavithana has the distinction of scoring 409 in their traditional fixture against Dharmasoka College last year.

He has also scored over 1000 runs in the under-13 and 15 levels as well.

“I am happy to receive an award of this nature that will certainly encourage me to go further in this sport. But I could not have achieved this success on my own so I thank my team-mates and coaches for this success,” said Paranavithana.
