Adverse weather hits over 150,000 power consumers

14 May, 2021

Over 150,000 power consumers have been affected by breakdowns due to the adverse weather prevailing in the country during the past few days, according the Power and Energy Development Director cum Media Spokesperson Sulakshana Jayawardena.

Almost 25,000 complaints have been received and the Ministry is making every endeavour to get all the connections going.

Apart from the 150,000 consumers reported to have been affected up to the weekend, most of the power lines were switched off in flooded areas enabling them to provide relief.

Areas such as Kandy, Kurunegala, Kuliyapitiya, Matale, Dambulla, Galagedara, Nuwara Eliya, Balangoda, Ratnapura, Galle, Matara, Neluwa, Deniyaya, Kelaniya and Kiribathgoda were among the power supply affected areas. The CEB maintenance services, however, are working round the clock to restore the power supply with the least possible delay.
