14 May, 2021

My country is Sri Lanka. It is the Pearl of the Indian Ocean. There are nine provinces and twenty five districts. The President is Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The capital of our country is Sri Jayewardenepura, Kotte. Sri Lanka’s nearest neighbour is India.

My country got independence on February 4, 1948. There are four main religions- Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and Christianity.  The national anthem was written by Ananda Samarakoon. The national bird is the jungle fowl.

There many historical places such as Sigiriya, and the Peradeniya Botanical Garden. Our country is surrounded by water.  The Prime Minister is Mahinda Rajapaksa.  Many tourists visit our country.

The national tree is the Ceylon Ironwood (Naa) tree. In the past Sri Lanka was known as the ’Granary of the East’.  The longest river is the Mahaweli. The highest mountain is Pidhuruthalagala . It is a small and a beautiful country. I love my country.
