No rugby but office-bearers hold sway

14 May, 2021

Despite no rugby in the country for nearly one and a half years, the Central Province Rugby Football Union will have their Annual General Meeting as a virtual event today (Sunday).

The meeting ID is 778 2910 0194 and the pass code is 41CP57.

The Agenda will be notice calling the meeting to order, Excuses, Confirm last AGM minutes, Address by the president, Secretary’s report, Accounts, Electing of pro-term chairman, Electing office bearers and Address by the incoming president. Balls provided by Sri Lanka Rugby to new rugby-playing schools was the only form of activity that took place.

Expectations run high for the new term according to officials hoping to be elected to the most important rugby body in the country outside the Western Province Rugby Football Union.

Rugby is the only field sport in Sri Lanka that continues to be suppressed while all other games have taken place during the covid-19 pandemic that includes cricket, football and track and field events.

In March this year rugby was all set to restart at the annual inter club Sevens which was called off at the eleventh hour after behind--the-scene happenings that took place between Sri Lanka Rugby, one club Air Force and the sponsors.
