Knife-wielding woman arrested

HUNGAMA: An enraged woman is alleged to have threatened a Grama Seveka

after she was told that her name was not on the Covid-19 Rs. 5,000 grant list.

The woman is alleged to have brandished a sharp instrument at the GS and other officials demanding that her name be included on the list.

She was later grappled to the floor, disarmed and handed over to the police.

According to the police the woman will be charged with obstructing the duties of officials, being in the possession of a weapon and for intimidation.

The Rs. 5,000 relief is given to people registered on the electoral list of the GS division.

Suspect dies in police cell

BATTICALOA: A 21-year-old youth arrested for a narcotic charge had allegedly died in a holding cell at a police station in the East.

The youth was arrested on a narcotic offence at a location in Karuwankerni the previous day.

The cause of death was not immediately known and the post mortem was due to be held yesterday.

Couple held for baby’s death

JAFFNA: A couple was taken into custody after they alleged to have hidden the death of their still-born at a location in Jaffna.

They were arrested after the woman was rushed to the hospital for excessive bleeding.

Suspicious hospital staff had later informed the police and the pair was nabbed.

They were later produced before a local Magistrate and remanded till June 15.

Six arrested in massage parlour bust

MOUNT LAVINIA: Six people, including four women were rounded up for allegedly operating a massage parlour despite quarantine regulations.

They were arrested from a location in Mount Lavinia on Friday. Massage parlours, night clubs, beach festivals and parties have been closed under the strict quarantine regulations prevailing in the country.
