New ‘iCarly’ will share what Sam is doing, says Miranda Cosgrove

The ‘iCarly’ revival is getting closer and closer, and we’re so excited to see our old faves make their triumphant return to our screens. While Carly, Freddie, and Spencer will be returning, Carly’s BFF Sam, played by Jennette McCurdy is not — and star Miranda Cosgrove has just shared some important info about Sam’s whereabouts.

“We touch a lot on the whole relationship with Sam and where Sam’s at in the pilot episode,” Miranda told ’Entertainment Weekly’. “And then we mention her a little bit throughout the season, so we’ll definitely explain that on the show.”

Earlier this year, Jennette spoke out about her decision to quit acting, saying, “I quit a few years ago because I initially didn’t want to do it. My mom put me in it when I was 6 and by sort of age, I guess, 10 or 11, I was the main financial support for my family. My family didn’t have a lot of money, and this was the way out, which I actually think was helpful in driving me to some degree of success.” Jennette also called her previous roles on Nickelodeon “embarrassing,” saying, “I’m so ashamed of the parts I’ve done in the past. I resent my career in a lot of ways. I feel so unfulfilled by the roles that I played and felt like it was the most cheesy, embarrassing. I did the shows that I was on from like 13 to 21, and by 15, I was already embarrassed.”

The show will go on despite Jennette’s absence. A few newbies have joined the cast of the revival, including Laci Mosley, who plays Carly’s roomie and best friend Harper, and Jaidyn Triplett, who is set to play Freddie’s stepdaughter Millicent. According to EW, Harper has dreams of being a stylist and gets to practice her skills on Carly, while Millicent is “spunky and social media-savvy.”

We’ve gotten a peek at the new crew via the first trailer, which shows Carly revamping her web TV series, dealing with a breakup, and navigating life as a 20something alongside her friends and family. We’ll be seeing more from Carly and her crew when the new iCarly hits Paramount Plus on June 17.
