Eight Antonian cricketers in Sri Lanka youth pool

St. Anthony’s College in Katugastota, Kandy has produced as many as eight promising players for the 75-member Sri Lanka Under-19 cricketer pool for its Residential Training Camp.

The national cricket Selectors picked the 75 talented school cricketers in five zones of 15 players each from the Colombo North, Colombo South, Southern, Central and North Western regions in preparation for upcoming international events.

The Antonian players picked are Sri Lanka youth cap Chamindu Wickramasinghe, Asitha Wanninayake, Lahiru Abeysinghe, Anjala Bandara, Chandimal Herath, Divyesh Ramiah, Trevin Mathews and Yasiru Gamaarachchi.

Sri Lanka youth cap Chamindu Wickramasinghe was with the Sri Lanka under 19 team on a tour of the West Indies and Pakistan in 2019/20.

A left hand batsman and right arm paceman Wickremasinghe had all-round performances at the last schools season and made a valuable century against S. Thomas’ College which was 112 in 61 balls with 19 boundaries and three sixes.

The rest of the seven players are also all-rounders.

They were coached by Suneth Gunatilleke and Susantha Basnayake with Priyantha Kumara as trainer and Lenin Jayasinghe as master in charge. (YK)
