End of the road for Dhanushka Gunathilaka’s gloated antics?

1 August, 2021

Sri Lanka cricketer Dhanushka Gunathilaka who had been a law unto himself has finally met the end of the road, or the skeptics may be justified to think otherwise, banned for one year from international cricket and thereafter not in a position to indulge in his gloated off-field antics with an ensuring two-year suspended ban.

Gunathilaka’s history of appallingly unruly and sleazy conduct is too numerous to mention with the last being his involvement in a hotel brawl this year that made him get-away scot-free.

He has now been ordered to undergo mental counselling after a disciplinary hearing by Sri Lanka Cricket found him and two other players Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Mendis guilty of violating a night time team curfew and coronavirus restrictions on a tour of England last month.

Mendis, who last year drove his SUV into a 64-year old man who lost his life in an incident that shocked the whole country, has also been ordered to under mental counselling.

Both Mendis and Dickwella like Gunathilaka have also been banned for a year and will subsequently be put on a two-year suspension ban which could come into effect for a future round of anti-social behaviour.

The trio who also rebelled for more pay last month have ironically been fined Rs, 10 million each.
