Govt refutes vaccine purchase claim

Recent media reports in an English daily newspaper stating that the Government is planning to purchase 13 million Sinovac vaccines is totally fabricated, Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana said.

According to Prof. Jayasumana, the Government has not allocated funds to purchase the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine as claimed in the newspaper. Sinovac is a Chinese Covid-19 vaccine approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) for emergency use for Covid-19.

More than 80 countries are using China’s Sinovac vaccine, including many in Asia, among them are countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines.
