The buggy cart or bakki karaththe was a major form of transport in the days gone by when there were no vehicles on the roads. People went about their business and did visiting using buggy carts. Children went to school in buggy carts. Even bridal couples went to the marriage registra’s in buggy carts.
Buggy cart races were held and this can be seen even today at New Year Festivals and similar events.
At present, buggy carts are rarely seen but you get one or two still plying on the roads.
