Oscar-Claude Monet was a French painter and the founder of impressionist painting. He is a key precursor to modernism, especially in his attempts to paint nature as he perceived it.
He was born on November 14, 1840 at Rue Laffitte, Paris, France. He died on December 5, 1926 in Giverny, France.
His paintings are on display at the Museum Barberini, Musée d’Orsay, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and at many other famous museums.
His work covers the periods of Impressionism, Modern art and Realism.
Among the subjects of his paintings are Water Lilies, Rouen Cathedral, Haystacks, Gare Saint-Lazare (Monet series )and Houses of Parliament.
He was married to Alice Hoschedé (m. 1892–1911) and Camille Doncieux (m. 1870–1879).
