Cameron Boyce’s final movie “Runt” gets first trailer

12 September, 2021

The official trailer for Cameron Boyce’s highly-anticipated final film, Runt, has finally arrived.

1091 Pictures recently dropped the first trailer for the movie, which will be available on-demand on October 19, after its initial theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles on October 1. The trailer shows Cameron in the titular role of Cal, a regular high school student with a regular side job, a cute dog, a penchant for art, and a huge crush. It all seems pretty normal until things turn sour when Cal is confronted about his feelings for Gabby (Deadpool’s Brianna Hildebrand) and things escalate, leading to school violence and more.

“Cal and Cecily (Nicole Elizabeth Berger) are bullied high school students who turn to revenge to settle scores with their tormentors. With no one to turn to, they spiral into a downward cycle of misguided violence,” the film’s synopsis reads. Runt also stars Cyrus Arnold, Aramis Knight, and Jason Patric – among others.

Though this is the first time fans get to see a trailer for the project, Runt had its official premiere back in February 2020 during the Mammoth Film Festival in California, where it took home the Audience Award for Best Feature Film. The first images from the film were unveiled in March, just a few days after its premiere.

“This film is very important in the climate we live in today,” Cameron’s parents, Victor and Libby Boyce, stated this year after the film secured its theatrical release. “Cameron was incredibly proud of this film, and we believe his powerful performance will resonate deeply with all his fans throughout the world.”

Runt is not Cameron’s only project to be released posthumously. Paradise City, an eight -episode musical series, also premiered its first season on Amazon Prime Video earlier this year. Recently, the series creator opened up about ultimately having to recast Cameron’s role shall the series continue. “With Cameron, his character really is the heartbeat for the audience. We’re all going on this ride with him as he discovers the world as an underdog. We’ll have to find someone amazing who can hopefully carry the character,” Ash Avildsen told EW. “I mapped out like six seasons before we even shot this, so his character, Simon, is the driving force as the story continues. So we would have to recast, and I hope audiences are emotionally prepared for that. It’s something you hope you never ever have to even think about, much less experience as a writer and director.”
