GCE A/L to be postponed?

26 September, 2021

Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said the GCE Advanced Level and Grade five scholarship examination might be postponed further to make way for schools to cover the syllabi.

The examinations were due to be held in November when the Education portfolio was under Prof. G.L. Peiris, before the Ministry reshuffle.

Minister Gunawardena told the Sunday Observer that the standard of examination papers will not be compromised to hold the examination on time but there might be a decision to delay the examination at a review meeting to be held soon. The ongoing strike by teacher trade unions has affected education in State schools, already battered by indefinite closures due to pandemic lockdowns. The Minister also said the reopening of schools will begin shortly on a step-by-step basis and they will start disinfection and cleaning of schools by early next month.
