Kandy, which has a history of producing several sportsmen for the country, has given Sri Lanka five top Under 19 youth cricketers from St. Anthony’s College and Trinity College who are in the squad to face Bangladesh in an upcoming series.

The five players are Chamindu Wickramasinghe, Trevin Mathews and Lahiru Abeysinghe from St. Anthony’s College and Pawan Pathiraja and Matheesha Pathirana from Trinity College.

Wickramasinghe is an all-rounder, a fine batter and bowler who was with the Sri Lanka under 19 team on a tour of the West Indies and Pakistan in 2019/20 while Abeysinghe is a stylish left hand bat who also bowls right arm fast.

Mathews has proved himself with bat and ball and is one of the most promising young players to come out of St. Anthony’s College.

Trinitian Pawan Pathiraja is a fine left hand batter and a right arm leg spinner while his schoolmate Matheesha Pathirana is a right hand bat who also bowls right arm fast.

It has also been awhile since Kandy schoolboy cricketers have been able to showcase themselves and the series against Bangladesh is an opportunity to grab for the budding players.
