Sri Lanka badminton umpire for France Open

Sri Lanka's badminton umpire Lakpriya Edirisinghe has been invited to officiate at the Yonex French Open championship from October 26 to 31 in Paris.

Edirisinghe also officiated at the recently concluded Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

"It is a good opportunity to officiate in this France Open tournament as most of the leading world class shuttlers are expected to take part in this event.

"Being a Sri Lankan umpire it is always a reat pleasure to officiate at international tournaments. I had very long journey to come to this level and presently the Badminton World Federation (BWF) also recognised my abilities as an umpire to officiate at higher level tournaments", said Edirisinghe.

"I appreciate the role played by Sri Lanka Badminton headed by Rohan de Silva who is determined to ensure that players, umpires and referees get good opportunities."

Edirisinghe is a former student of Asoka MV, Colombo and he has already officiated in more than 100 international badminton tournaments, including the Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympic Games and in three World Badminton Championships as an umpire and technical official.
