The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a famous, historic place. It is located in the Royal Palace Complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy.

It is situated in the Central Province. The Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha is kept there. It’s a most revered place. Many Buddhist pilgrims visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic annually.

It is considered as one of the main tourist attractions in Sri Lanka. Tourists from all parts of the world visit it.

There is an annual perehera of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. It is known as the Dalada perahera or the Esala perahera. This perahera is held in Kandy in July or August. This historical procession is held annually to pay homage to the sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha.

There are many beautiful places around the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. King Wimaladharmasuriya, the First Sbuilt the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in 1595. UNESCO has declared the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic as a World heritage site. This is a very important place.
