Minister of Justice Ali Sabry, President’s Counsel represented Sri Lanka as a panellist at the prestigious World Law Congress held in Barranquilla, Colombia on December 2 and 3.

Minister Sabry was invited to be a panellist on the Panel ‘Rule of Law, the new National Security geostrategy and legal certainty’. The other panellists included the former Prime Minister of France Manuel Valls, Ambassador Itamar Rabinovich, former United States Secretary of Defence and the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency Leon Edward Panetta, and the former Ministers of Defence of Spain and Italy Maria Dolores de Cospedal and Giampaolo Di Paola.

The World Law Congress is an event organised by the World Law Foundation. The main organisation holding its Biennial Congress within the framework is the World Jurist Association (WJA), which has special consultative status to the United Nations.

The WJA has celebrated biennial congresses around the world since 1965, all of which have focused on the promotion of the Rule of Law as a guarantor of freedom and development for nations.
