Kandy schools gear up for Provincial rugby tourney

Rugby playing schools in Kandy are gearing up for one of three Provincial tournaments, in this case the Central Province championship, on December 27 at the Trinity College ground in Pallekele.

Eight schools in Kandy will vie for honours at the tournament that follows the Western Province tournament in Colombo on December 17 and 19 with an off-day in-between.

The schools lined-up for the Central Province tournament are Kingswood College, Trinity College, St. Sylvester’s College, Dharmaraja College, St. Anthony’s College, Vidyartha College, Wariyapola Sri Sumangala College and Sri Rahula College.

Officials from the Sri Lanka Rugby Referees Society will referee the matches.

Trinity is coached by Kavinda Jayasena and Thusitha de Silva with Thean Karunanayake as captain, Sri Rahula coached by Roshan Ratnayake and captained by Senal Madubashan de Silva, St. Sylvester’s coached by BM Dharmapala and captained by Avishka Subash, Wariyapola Sri Sumangala coached by Dinesh Gamage and captained by Manusha Kavinda, Kingswood coached by Ananda Kasthuriarachchi and captained by Dimantha Ekanayake, Vidyartha coached by Danusha Pushpakumara and captained by Chirantha Kaluarachchi, St. Anthony’s coached by Sumedha Malawana and captained by Nalisha Perera or J. Amarasnghe and Dharmaraja coached by Lasintha de Costa and captained by Buddhika Abeysinghe or Dharshan Ettipola.
