Navidu Dilshan wins big at Musclemania India

19 December, 2021

Musclemania was founded in 1991 as one of the most ideal platforms for natural bodybuilders in the world. Well known bodybuilders had won awards at Musclemania international competition.

Navidu Dilshan who is 18-year-old won two trophies at the competition, opening a new chapter. He won the first place under the teenage division and the physique championship by competing with 350 competitors.

Winding back the clock to his childhood, Navidu had his education at Vidyaloka College in Galle. The well known saying is that every dark cloud has a silver lining. Unexpectedly, he met with an accident and received injuries. Amazingly, as if through a miracle of his destiny, the bitter experience he faced became a blessing in disguise. In an interview with the ‘Youth Observer’ he revealed the miracle of his destiny.

Q: How did you get into bodybuilding?

The reason is my mother, Shamalee Balage. After my O/L’s, I met with an accident and had to undergo medical treatment. I used to play video games without getting involved in any activity. At that time, my mother asked me to join a gym. On November 27, 2019 I joined a gym. That is how I got into bodybuilding.

Q: Could you tell me about your parents ?

My father is Nandula Priyadarshana. My mother is Shamalee Balage.

Q: Could you tell me about your achievements?

I participated in the Musclemania international competition which was held at the NCUI Auditorium and Convention Centre in India. I could win two trophies by competing with 350 competitors. I won first place in the teenage division and the physique championship.

Q: What were the challenges you had to take up?

Staying in this field is not easy. You have to invest a huge sum of money to maintain your body. I have to stress that some people were jealous of me. They thought that I was using steroids to build my body. Winning these two trophies is the best answer to them.

Q: Would you think that there can be found opportunities available for athletes in our country?

I think that we don’t have a well organised system for them. Another problem is that we can’t find well educated and qualified instructors in the country. In India they have a well organised system. Bodybuilders have their own sponsors. Instructors are well educated and qualified.

Q: Who helped you to achieve your goal, except for your parents?

My cousin Chirath Harshana was with me throughout my journey. He helped me when I participated in the competition.

Q: Can you tell me about your future plans?

My dream is to conquer the Olympic stage before 25 years old. My next goal is to win the IFBB Pro Card. I intend to help out athletes by guiding them. Nowadays, I am helping out some athletes with meal plans and tips.

Q: Do you have any message for other athletes?

Yes, you have to remember why you entered the field of bodybuilding. Although some athletes enter this field, they tend to give up after several months. That is why you should love what you do.
