Peterite juniors rock arch rivals Joes

Opener Savi Fernando steered St Peter’s College to a thrilling five-wicket win over arch-rivals St Joseph’s College in their Under-15 Division One 50-over tournament league match at Darley Road on Monday.

Fernando top scored with a well-compiled 75 facing 122 balls to help the Peterites chase down a formidable target after the Joes had made 223 for eight.

St Peter’s replied with 227 for five in 49.3 overs after Fernando and Eathan Ransilige laid the platform with a spectacular opening stand of 104. When Ransilige departed for 50 off 80 balls hitting five boundaries and six, Fernando who was playing second fiddle took charge of the innings to stamp his authority.

Savi batted until the 48th over hitting six boundaries and two sixes during his knock and also figured in a fourth wicket stand of 88 with left hander Asadisa Silva (45).
