Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had asserted that any changes to the system governing post-intern appointments will be the prerogative of the Health Minister.
However, he stressed that any contentions should be ironed out through discussion.
At a meeting chaired by the PM last week, the Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Gunawardena was advised by the Premier to discuss with all stakeholders to find common ground over matters related to post-intern appointments.
The meeting at Temple Trees was attended by Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, Health Ministry officials, National Salaries Commission Secretary Chandrani Senaratne, GMOA representatives including its President Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya and senior State officials.
The discussion was held to settle a dispute over the newly introduced system of post-intern appointments.
The Minister has pointed out there was no way to re-introduce the discarded system but he would consider the concerns raised by interested parties.
