Harshitha Madavi (65) and Nilakshi de Silva ( 49) produced an unbroken 87-run fourth wicket stand as Sri Lanka beat Malaysia by 93 runs in their women’s Commonwealth Games qualifying cricket tournament fixture in Malaysia yesterday, but their real test will come today in the decider against Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka chose to bat first and scored 175 for 3 wickets in 20 overs while Malaysia women managed to get up to 82 for 7 in 20 overs .

Harshitha Madavi scored 65 in 42 balls with ten fours while Nilakshi de Silva hit seven fours in making 49 in 31 balls which paved the way for Sri Lanka to reach 175. Madavi was also named as player of the match.

Malaysian opener Winifred Duraisingam was the only successful batter with an unbeaten 42 in 54 balls while Sri Lankan Sugandika Kumari and Oshadee Ranasinghe took two wickets each to strangle the opponents.

Sri Lanka will next play against the experienced Bangladesh in what will be a decider for the Commonwealth Games qualification.

Sri Lanka earlier beat Scotland and Kenya without much effort in one-sided games and have yet to face top opposition like Bangladesh today.
