There is a drastic increase in the number of Covid-19 patients who register under the home-based care program and this number has been increasing since January 17, Consultant Family Physician Dr. Malkanthi Galhena said. She told a press briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau in Colombo on Friday that there were only 2,500 Covid-19 patients in the home-based care system and now this number has increased to 6,423. The number increased at an unbelievable speed, she said.

She said that even the booster dose is not adequate for people who suffer from Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and other chronic illnesses taking immunity lowering medications.

They can develop complications and their condition can be fatal like during the Delta wave. Therefore, they should be extra careful. Young Covid-19

patients who had taken all three vaccines and who do not suffer from illnesses such as NCDs can take adequate liquids and bed rest without rushing to hospital, she said.
