Blackpink comeback delayed again

30 January, 2022

The success of an artist always depends on the amount of activities they tend to participate in order to interest the fans, and without content calling for fame or viewers is no use.

Blackpink, is a well-known K-Pop girl group in the world, starting from a stunning debut to capture audiences, they are practically known as “Queens of K-Pop” in popular culture. However, over the past year group activities of the girls have dropped immensely low whereas the expectations of their fans were high.

It’s unnatural to see K-Pop groups with less interactions like these, and who is to blame?. Well, almost all K-Pop groups are managed by a respective agency or a company, these companies are responsible for most of the decision making of the artist’s. Likewise, Blackpink is a group under YG Entertainment. YG Entertainment is known to be one of the greatest three entertainment companies in South Korea, by information Hwang Bo-kyung is its current CEO.

On 11th of January 2022, the company reportedly had made an announcement in regard to delaying BLACKPINK’s much anticipated comeback. This created a lot of questions for the group being silent over the last year. Blinks (Blackpink’s fandom) were furious with the arrangement due to the long wait.

One Blink tweeted “1 year, 3 months and 8 days without music as a group. We’ve been waiting for them for 465 days and they haven’t announced a comeback yet. WE WANT BLACKPINK COMEBACK”. Indeed, there is a need to be angry, practically because it wasn’t the first time that the company has treated them unfairly.

Putting more coal to the situation, YG promoted one of Blackpink’s merchandise that led to a huge chaos. Fans were numerously trying to fight back all these by trending the hashtags #STOPDELAYINGBLACKPINK and #BLACKPINKCOMEBACKNOW. What’s more, it was rumored to have been done in order to debut a new girl group.

By the end of the day fans haven’t given up, neither has the company posted a clear explanation. Blinks were utterly determined to get the due respect to their idols, and so decided to boycott YG Entertainment, by sending vehicles etc to the building premises.

“We want new songs from Blackpink!!! I am not demanding to make the girls tired and exhausted but the last song they released as a group was LOVESICK GIRLS last in 2020. Wake Up YG!” said another via Twitter. Apparently, some of what the fan’s say are true.

Blackpink hadn’t committed enough as a group last year, yet two members had Solo albums, whereas one other had a main acting role. Although these may be reasons for the agency, the fans aren’t having it. Many blinks exhibit the fact that this wasn’t actually the first time the idols have been mistreated. In fact, Lisa had been cheated by her own manager, assigned by the company.

The fans argue that the company doesn’t deserve such talented artists. It was in 2016 that Blackpink debuted, making a huge entrance in the K-Pop industry. However, after this powerful debut their comeback unexpectedly dived low. Later they proceeded to release singles as well as mini-albums, rather than a whole album.

It was during 2019, the corporation decided that the foursome had some use, just because the company was boycotted due to their heavy bankruptcy. Releasing “Kill This Love”, helped them climb high again no matter that they were badly involved in economics at the time. Yet again, this time too they were left to forget after advantage was taken.

According to the fans, their single ‘How You Like That’ was released after 14 months of their single ‘Kill this Live’ in 2020. It again was capable of gaining chart numbers and saving the company as usual.

It was followed by ‘Lovesick Girls’ in the same year, fans thought that this was maybe a new light, because of the occurrence of events. Promising solo debuts of the remaining artist’s except Jennie, who had done her debut “Solo” during 2018, the group seemed on indefinite hiatus in 2021. Funny huh? Well, the fact that YG Entertainment have comebacks for boy groups at least once a year, whereas not for the girls is.

As promised, member Rosé produced her solo debut, which seemed to have been a great hit in 2021. This was followed by Lisa’s in the second half of the year, once again a chart topping act. As emphasized by fans, Rosé hasn’t been able to exhibit her talent vastly within the scope of her solos.

Nevertheless, Lisa too had several issues very badly handled hers. What makes it more frustrating is, Jisoo’s solo or other work has never been taken into regard by the organization.

The list of the mistreatment can go as long as possible, making fans furious. Well it’s not wrong to be, when four well talented girls are not given attention to. Idols have been assigned to Entertainment companies hoping that they are safe and treated uniquely.

YG is no exception to fitting the standards. It’s necessary that they reveal if they can handle the group’s future or not, unless they take immediate action because the years lost can’t be taken back.

As per my opinion, instead of focusing on introducing new groups and artists, YG must put on a scheme of work for the artists that have been deserted. All I hope is that they start treating the artist fairly, or else they may witness serious damage to their so-called reputation. It’s said that “Prevention is better than care”, so let’s see if they can get back a move before going bankrupt again.
