Wellalage secures slot at Super League

Dunith Wellalage, who captained the Sri Lanka Under-19 cricket team at the recently concluded Youth World Cup in the West Indies, has secured a place in the Jaffna squad at the on-going National Super League following his showing with both bat and ball.

He is likely to feature in today’s match against Galle as Jaffna eyes a berth in the final.

Wellalage finished as the highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets bowling leg-spinners at the Youth World Cup and also scored 264 runs that included a century. His 17 wickets included two five-wicket hauls and he was man of the match against Scotland, Australia and South Africa.

Wellalage is a product of St. Sebastian’s College in Moratuwa and crossed over to St. Joseph’s College in Maradana were he had some brilliant performances for the Joes.

He is also likely to be on show at the Major Clubs three-day tournament which will commence on February 18 with 26 clubs divided into four groups contesting.
