It would be inappropriate to say that Twinkle is stunning. Yes indeed , she is more stunning than that word, more gorgeous than that word and nicer than that word. Twinkle shines in her career as a model and fashion designer. She had her education at Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo and made a name for herself as a distinguished fashion designer.
Twinkle was crowned as Miss Intercontinental Sri Lanka 2019. At present ,she has established her own clothing brand name THE HIGHNESS and has been signed on by a popular Indian fashion designing company in Mumbai. The Youth Observer spoke to her to discuss her journey.
As a little girl in her childhood , Twinkle used to draw whatever came to her mind. The friendship between Twinkle and her pencil became inseparable. Later on , she would find her own path as a fashion designer. “I was able to win the award for the youngest fashion designer of the year at the age of 11.”
Even in her childhood , she had shown her inborn skills. She used to draw whatever comes to her mind. Twinkle studied fashion design in the Mecca of fashion , Paris. She graduated from the Indian Institute of fashion and technology in Bangalore, India. In addition , she joined the American National College as a consultant.
“After schooling I went to India to continue my studies and got an opportunity to go to Paris. It was a great opportunity that I grabbed” said, Twinkle. Speaking of inspiration, she got the inspiration from her mother. As said by Twinkle , her mother had laid the foundation for her being a fashion designer. “I used to observe my mother. Very importantly, my mother encouraged to me to go forward in this field and asked me to apply for the Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Intercontinental beauty pageant. “ My mother asked me to participate in the event , not to win. “she said.
As a fashion designer
Already, Twinkle has established herself as a fashion designer. She had broadened her knowledge in fashion and design by following different styles in India. However, it is clear that she has created her own style , showcasing her true talents. “I got many opportunities to participate in fashion shows. Therefore , I could sharpen my skills,” she recalled happily. Evidently, she has participated in many fashion shows in Sri Lanka and India. Significantly,she had won the award for the best fashion designer at the university in Bangalore in 2015. A fashion designer should have a creative eye. In Mumbai, Twinkle had captivated everyone’s eyes through her new, unique designs. What has made her stand out is her uniqueness. Her secret is to do something new without continuing with traditional styles. That is why Twinkle shines in this field like a diamond.
“We cannot compare Indian fashion designers with American fashion designers because they follow far different extremes. That is what we should do without imitating anyone she said with confidence. When I asked about the Sri Lankan fashion design field, she said that there are many areas to be developed. “India is a country where fashions and designs can thrive. Indian fashion designers are hardworking and engage themselves in whatever they do. In India, there are many opportunities for fashion designers. There are more trainers in India. They organise fashion shows in a very standardised manner. Therefore,every designer has a value. But In our country we find that there aren’t enough opportunities.”
Turning point in life
Speaking of the turning point in her life , she said that she had won the award for the youngest fashion designer at the age of 11. Yes indeed , Twinkle as a little girl began to climb to the highest position of the ladder of success through her creativity and talents. In India, she designed her dress and won an award at the university. Twinkle was crowned as the Miss Intercontinental Sri Lanka 2019. “ I could win the award for the youngest fashion designer at the age of 11.
It is the most cherished moment in my life. As a result, many people got to know who I am. So, I got many opportunities “she awakened her memories. True, that when we achieve our goals in life, most people around us try to bring us down. Most people get jealous of our success. Unknowingly or knowingly we tend to forget our targets and try to react to our enemies blindly. It is futile. When I asked Twinkle about her reaction to such situations, she said that we have to be kind to them.
“We have to show kindness to them and work with them. If we do the same , we will not be able to achieve our goals. We have to talk with them, work with them, move forward with them and communicate with them in a positive manner. We cannot control others. If we can create a friendship even with our enemies, we will find no enemies in our life. Then, we have nothing to worry about. “Twinkle said.
Situation in the country
Being an experienced fashion designer Twinkle possesses a multifaceted insight into the fashion industry. To my question about the country’s fashion industry she said, “Those interested in the fashion industry should have a goal. They should have a clear idea about what they can do and what they have to do for the country.
Anyone entering the fashion designing field should get trained under well qualified mentors. They can train you to achieve your goals. If you are talented ,you will be able to get a proper training. Sadly, in our country there are models and fashion designers mushrooming. It is not a good thing. Models should be trained under the guidance of well experienced and qualified trainers. Otherwise , our fashion industry will deteriorate. Those entering this field should be wise and educated. One’s education is really important. Avenues can be found for those who are educated and intelligent”.
Her message
“As a woman I would say that women have to be independent and educated. We have to maintain our image and dignity. Many will try to tarnish our image but we should not get involved in anything which can tarnish our own image. The most important thing in our life is education. Educate yourself. Be kind to everyone.
If you are stable in the fashion industry, help others who are willing to enter the field. Never forget your parents, relations, friends and those who helped you. We have heard that when some people reach the highest position in their fields , they forget others. It is really bad. Women should be involved in charity programs so that they can help those who need Their help. “Twinkle said.
The highness
The new clothing brand named THE HIGHNESS was established by Twinkle. As said by Twinkle, she intends to showcase her new fashion collections.
Speaking of her future plans, Twinkle intends to organise another pageant and do her master’s. Twinkle Goonethilake will elevate the country’s fashion industry up to an international level.
