Over 5,689 Covid-19 patients are in hospitals, at present, and the number of Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency Unit beds by Covid-19 patients is 67, Deputy Director General Health Services, Dr. Hemantha Herath said.
He told a press briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau in Colombo on Friday that 15,949 Covid-19 deaths had been reported up to February 17. Health Promotion Bureau Director Dr. Ranjith Batuwanthudawa said that the Omicron variant is 100 percent dominant in Sri Lanka and that 45 percent of the targeted population had taken their booster dose (Pfizer). In some districts such as Matale the percentage is 63 percent.
The percentage of people obtaining the booster dose in Matale, Kandy, Ampara and Anuradhapura has passed the 50 percent mark which is a positive sign, he said.
