Focus on the safety of Lankan students in Belarus

The Foreign Ministry is coordinating with the Sri Lanka embassy in Russia to ensure the safety of Sri Lanka students following higher studies in Belarus. According to a Foreign Ministry spokesman the Sri Lankan embassy in Moscow which is concurrently accredited to Belarus is closely monitoring the developments on the present situation in Ukraine and on ensuring the safe return of Lankans from the war-torn country. The Foreign Ministry has said that 1,561 students are currently following higher studies in Belarus and that it in constant touch with university officials in Belarus and Russia along with the parents in the country on ensuring the safety as well as the safe return of the Lankan students.

The Foreign Ministry has also urged all Lankans in Belarus to be in close contact with the embassy officials in Moscow to work out their safe return to the island.
