Dazzling Havelocks run riot past hapless CR

Havelock Sports Club produced a dazzling run and pass game to thrash a hapless CR and FC by 53 points (8 tries, 5 conversions, 1 penalty) to 3 (1 penalty) to claim the Commander Eustace Matthysz trophy in their SLR ‘A’ Division League Rugby tournament first round match played at Longden Place yesterday.

It was the Havies three-quarters who paved the way for this spectacular victory with their ‘eight’ also giving a superb display to completely outplay their arch rivals in the loose.

Havelocks enjoyed a 22-3 lead at half time with tries coming from winger Randitha Warnapura (two), second row forward Umesh Madushan (one) in addition to two conversions and one penalty slotted in by fly half Sandesh Jayawickrema. Yasas Kavindu slotted a solitary penalty for CR.

In the second half, prop forward Hafiz Adahan, scrum half Ashel Ranasinghe, flanker Christian De Lile, winger Ramesh Fernando and number eight Lasindu Karunathilake scored one try each for Havelocks while Jayawickrema (two) and Chanaka Chandimal (one) slotted in three conversations to complete the rout.
