Havelocks run riot over CH after early scare

28 March, 2022

A spirited Havelocks team came from behind after being 0-12 down to beat the CH and FC outfit by 38 points (6 tries, 4 conversions) to 15 (2 tries, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) in their Nippon Paint ‘A’ Division inter club league rugby tournament super round Cup match played at the Race Course ground yesterday. Havies led 19 points to 15 at half time.

After being contained in the first half of the game, the Havelocks forwards along with their speedy three-quarters came up with a sterling display in the second half of the match to outplay their counterparts in the loose and mid field.

But Havies fly half Damian Ratwatte (younger brother of Kandy skipper Nigel Ratwatte) was a source of inspiration to his entire team with his spectacular play and capped a fine performance in the match where he scored two brilliant tries.

For the winning Havies team, the six tries were scored by Damian Ratwatte (two), centre Nishon Perera (one), Cristian Dilile (one), hooker Athukorale (one) and Hafiz Adahan (one) while the four conversions were fired across by Ratwatte.

For the losing CH team the two tries were scored by full back Avishka Lee and winger Janindu Dilshan while fly half Rohitha Rajapaksa slotted in the conversion and the solitary penalty.
