Megan Thee Stallion gets heartbreakingly candid about her alleged assault

1 May, 2022

Appearing on the latest edition of ‘CBS Mornings’, Megan Thee Stallion got emotional while speaking on-air for the first time about the July 2020 shooting in which she was shot in the feet, allegedly by rapper Tory Lanez.

Megan sat down with ‘Mornings’ co-host Gayle King to share new details about the incident. When asked about the events directly leading up to the shooting, Megan said that a small argument ensued in the car after she, Tory, her former friend Kelsey Harris, and Tory’s driver/security were leaving a party at Kylie Jenner’s house.

“It was an argument because I was ready to go and everybody else wasn’t ready to go. But that’s, like, normal friend stuff,” Megan told Gayle. “Like, we fuss about silly stuff all the time. But I never put my hands on anybody. I never raised my voice too loud. Like, this was one of them times where it was, like, it shouldn’t have got this crazy.”

Megan claims Tory and Kelsey began to argue separately, and she asked the driver to pull the car over so she could get out. Yet, she was convinced to get back in because they were near their destination.

“So I get back in the car and… the arguing in the car is getting worse. And I don’t want to be in this car no more. ‘Cause I see it’s getting crazy.”

According to Megan, the situation quickly escalated as she exited the vehicle a second time.

Screaming

“All I hear is this man [Lanez] screaming,” Megan said tearfully. “And he said, ‘Dance, b*tch.’ And he started shooting. And I’m just like, ‘Oh, my God.’ …Like, he shot a couple of times.”

Megan alleges that Tory leaned out of the backseat window to shoot her, and that she feared for her life.

“I was really scared ‘cause I had never been shot at before,” said Megan. “And I looked down at my feet… the adrenaline is pumping so hard, I’m not sure if he hit me, like I feel it but I don’t understand what’s happening. So I look down at my feet and I’m like ‘Oh my God, I’m really bleeding.’ So I like drop down and I crawl in somebody’s driveway, like I can’t believe he shot me.”

In October 2020, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Tory had been charged with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm - personal use of a firearm, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. Tory has pled not guilty to the charges.

Per Rolling Stone, if Tory is convicted as charged, prosecutors believe he could face up to 22 years and eight months in prison.

‘A million dollars’

Megan claims that after Tory shot her, he began to apologize to Megan and Kelsey, offering them “a million dollars” to not tell anyone about the incident. “I’m like what are you talking about? Why are you offering me money right now?” recalled Megan. “Help me! And if you sorry, just help me.”

Megan says that someone in the neighborhood heard the gunshots and called the police, who arrived on the scene soon after. “There was so many of them, there was helicopters,” recalled Megan. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, we all about to die.’ The George Floyd incident had just happened.”

In police footage obtained by TMZ, Megan is seen exiting the vehicle with her hands up. “You could see the footage of me in a swimsuit limping backwards, feet bleeding,” says Megan.

Megan initially told police that she was injured by stepping on glass — Megan claims that she lied about the gunshot wounds out of fear of police brutality. By making it known that there was a weapon in the car she believes the situation could have been escalated even further by police.

“Stepped on glass”

“I just said I stepped on glass... For some reason I was just trying to protect all of us, because I didn’t want them to kill us,” said Megan. “Even though this person just did this to me, my first reaction still was to try to save us. I didn’t want to see anybody die. So I just said I stepped on glass. So when I see people trying to use that against me, trying to act like I’m lying.

‘Oh she stepped on glass, she never got shot.’ I’m the one who said I stepped on glass. I was lying to protect all of us. Sometimes I really wish I would have never said that. I wish I would’ve told the truth. But if it saved all of us from dying, then that’s just probably what it was meant to be.”

After Megan was taken to the hospital and questioned by police, a doctor revealed that there were, in fact, bullets in both of her feet. CBS Mornings featured the graphic images of her wounds during the interview. According to the medical records also shown on-air, doctors performed “successful removal of the major bullet fragments.” However, there are still smaller bullet fragments in Megan’s feet that doctors “deemed too small to attempt retrieval.”

Mornings also reported a new development, that in text messages from the night of the shooting obtained by CBS News, Megan’s former friend Kelsey Harris texted Megan’s security guard two messages: “Help” and “Tory shot Meg.”
