Sri Lanka cricket captain Dimuth Karunaratne said that a short stint he had playing for the English county Yorkshire had taught him a few extra tips ahead of the two-Test Bangladesh series which starts today in Chattogram.

“I had a good opportunity to play three county matches for Yorkshire before this Bangladesh Test series. I played in three different venues but couldn’t play long innings, only 20s and 30s.

“But playing against seamers with the Duke balls, how to build up the innings, how to adjust to the condition gave me some lessons as an opener. It was a great opportunity to play county cricket,” said Karunaratne in a telephone interview with the Sunday Observer.

He will open the innings with Oshada Fernando who comes in the absence of two other openers in the injured Pathum Nissanka and Lahiru Thirimanne. Fernando scored more than 700 runs in the recent domestic season.

The two Test series against Bangladesh is part of the ICC World Test Championship.
