Budding schoolboy cricketers showcased their skills at the Youth Inter-District cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket and the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.
Tharinda Nirmal of Richmond College Galle representing Galle Zone 2 team showcased his skills with the bat scoring a century against Moneragala District team in their first round fixture.
The left hander Nirmal scored 110 runs off 105 balls including 11 fours and two sixes. Later he claimed two wickets for 11 runs to help his side beat Moneragala by nine wickets. Sri Lanka youth cap Sasanka Nirmal (Devapathiraja College Rathgama) also contributed by scoring 68 runs in 31 balls with five boundaries and six sixes for the Galle team.
Kanishka Lakshan (Kekirawa Central) of Anuradhapura District team also performed well with bat and ball against Mullaitivu District team. Lakshan scored 63 runs in 61 balls with nine boundaries and claimed seven wickets for 25 runs with his medium pace.
Sri Lanka Youth cap Harindu Jayasekara the left handed opener (St. Thomas’ Matara) of Matara District team scored an unbeaten 66 runs off 32 balls with six boundaries and five sixes against Ratnapura.
Sineth Sithara also of St. Thomas’ Matara and Matara District team claimed 5 for 21 with a hat-trick against Ratnapura. Irushka Thimira (Devapathiraja College) the left arm orthodox spinner of Galle District Zone 2 claimed 5for 13 runs against Ratnapura District team.
Other players to shine were Prabuddha Premalal (Kurunegala Zone 1), Dilan Ishara (Matale), Hansamana de Silva (Galle Zone 2) andM. Mayuran (Vavuniya) who scored half centuries for their respective teams.
