Reliving a childhood cult classic, ‘Top Gun Maverick’ finally hit screens after two years of the trailer release and 36 years in the making.
Like many movies which were slotted for 2020, but were halted due to the Covid pandemic. Tom Cruise returns as Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, serving in the US Navy and refusing any promotion to continue flying.
The movie was a perfect redemption to where it was left 30 years ago, this time with excellent flying, super cool fighter jets and mind-blowing visuals and forgetting how Tom (Cruise) still able to recreate the bike scenes just like in the first movie.
Everything was good from the start to the end, and it was hard to find a fault. Well deserved screen time for Val Kilmer Lieutenant Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky, brought back some wonderful memories, and an emotional side of the two pilots.
Even though titled ‘Maverick’, every graduate pilot had valuable screen time and recreated some of the most iconic scenes of Top Gun 1986. An array of pictures, and a photographic appearance of Lieutenant Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw.
Emotional side
The late Bradshaw’s son Bradley Rooster Bradshaw (Miles Teller) is now trained by Maverick. With memories of Bradshaw, and Maverick trying to protect Rooster on a dangerous mission.
The stunts, visual brilliance and emotional roller-coaster complimented the movie so well. It’s rare you see Cruise shed a tear, but it reflects on an emotional side of Maverick.
Tom Cruise and team, produced and directed another epic of a movie, with airborne stunts and a flying F-14A tomcat, credit to the cameraman who shot from those angles.
It was great that the movie was released in cinemas because it deserves a cinematic presence with scenes of that calibre. Tom Cruise didn’t hog the limelight, and each actor was given good screen space. Rooster brought back some wonderful memories of his later father. It was not about Tom doing everything in the movie. Hopefully, there will be another Top Gun, Rooster Bradshaw and Maverick Mitchell.
To those who loved the first one, this is a must-watch film. Love flying, into jets and aeroplanes or bikes, pilot or aspiring pilot, you learn a lot from the movie.
