Govt schools in Colombo to be closed from June 20-24

19 June, 2022

All Government and Government-approved private schools in the Colombo city limits will remain closed from June 20-24, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Nihal Ranasinghe said. The decision was taken in view of the issues that emerged in transportation due to the shortage of fuel.

However, all rural schools which do not face such challenges can continue to conduct class lessons at the discretion of the principals.

In addition, a decision has been taken to continue academic activities at schools in the suburbs.

A request was made by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka not to interrupt the power supply during the day when online lessons are conducted, Ranasinghe said.

Following a review meeting on June 25, the education authorities will decide on how the academic activities at schools will be carried out the following week.
