Kandy Esala perahera from August 2-12

The annual Kandy Esala perahera will be held from August 2 to 12 this year with the participation of devotees from all parts of the country.

A large number of foreign tourists too is expected to take part in the Esala perehera this year as it could not be held for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela outlined the arrangements being made to conduct the perahera this year. The Kap planting ceremony will take place on June 29 at the auspicious time of 3.00 a.m. at the four Devalayas of the Temple of the Tooth Relic. The first Kumbal perahera will parade the streets on August 2 and the final Randoli perahera will parade the streets on August 12 concluding the rituals that had taken place from the time of ancient kings in the country, Pradeep Dela added .
