Radhika Hettiarachchi bags job as Royal’s deputy coach

Former Dharmaraja College, Kandy Sports Club captain, CH and FC, CR & FC, Upcountry Lions captain, Sri Lanka national Sevens and Nepal national head coach Radhika Hettiarachchi has been appointed as the assistant coach of Royal College for the upcoming 2022 club rugby season.

Hettiarachchi was the coach of unbeaten Dharmaraja when they won the inter school League title in 2013 with fly half Rochana Hettiarachchi as captain.

He also coached the Nepal men’s and women’s rugby teams becoming the second Sri Lankan to achieve this feat.

Hettiarachchi, one of the most esteemed coaches in the island has been in the forefront of many rugby teams as head coach during the recent past and has been instrumental in moulding some of Sri Lanka’s finest ruggerites.

Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Observer from Kandy, Hettiarachchi said: “I’m very much thankful to the Royal College rugby committee for having faith in me and appointing me as Dushan Lewke’s assistant coach.

“I’ll do my very best along with my head coach Lewke Jnr. to make the Royal College rugby team a champion outfit”.

Incidentally just before the commencement of this year’s season they played two practice matches and won (25-0) versus Zahira College and (33-12) against Vidyartha College Kandy.
