International Domestic Migrant Workers’ Day- 2022

International Domestic Migrant Workers’ Day organised by the Lebanon Sri Lanka Women’s Association and the embassy of Sri Lanka was celebrated on June 19, 2022 at the Embassy premises in Beirut.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Lebanon and Syria, Shani Kalyanaratne Karunaratne was the chief guest and Migration Coordinator for the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Kaja Baltmann attended, the special guest.

Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Women’s Association in Lebanon, Champi Silva delivered the welcome address following which Ambassador Karunaratne and Migration Coordinator Kaja Blattmann presented the keynote addresses on the responsibility and contribution of domestic migrant workers to the economic stability of a country. The event showcased drama, songs, dances, poetry recitation and many other activities and the guests were treated to a sumptuous Sri Lankan breakfast.

Members of the Lebanon Sri Lanka Women’s Association, Ratnadeepa International Migrantion Board, Rataviru Foundation, Eksath Janatha Sangamaya, Siha Sena Organisation and Sila Samadhi Sadaham Eamuthuwa and members of the Sri Lankan Lebanese and Syrian migrant communities participated.
