Ananda College, a school that has produced leading cricketers who have ended up playing for the Sri Lanka team, has launched a Trust Fund that will help continue to support their cricketers to enhance their standards.

The Trust Fund was launched by the Cricket Wing together with the Old Anandians Sports Club and principal Lal Dissanayake on June 16 at their Kularatne Hall. The large gathering that was present were parents and cricket playing students of all age groups.

This Fund would support the development of cricket at Ananda in a sustainable manner that can regain the past glory of cricketers of yesteryear and will take away the burden of parents at this time of economic crisis the country is facing.

By 1981, Ananda College had produced five out of 19 cricketers who represented the Under-19 national team and has consistently produced high performing national level cricketers to represent Sri Lanka at Test and ODI games.

This project called ‘Road to Glory’ will focus on providing the much required technical support, nutrition, mental strength, motivation and most importantly it will also instill the required levels of discipline into the upcoming players needed to perform at their highest level. The Trust Fund will be managed by former cricketing stars and professionals from Ananda College, while giving due place to authenticity and transparency at the top.

It will be managed by a Board of top tier business and professional personnel from the College alumnus who have been appointed through a special management unit to steer the College’s cricketing journey.

“We are committed to bring back the golden era where we proudly cheered, not only for our nation but for our schoolmates as well. To assist this long term and sustainable journey, we request all past Anandians to step forward and support Ananda with funding, be it individual level or at a corporate level. This is the start of a new journey that will be memorable in the sporting annals of Ananda College,” said Ranjith Pandithage of Dimo fame.

The activities of Cricket Ananda will be regularly published on its social media and their website to effectively engage with the public.

The trustees include ex-Sri Lanka cricketer Sidath Wettimuny, former Sri Lanka Cricket Board president administrator Ana Punchihewa, reputed businessman and distinguished Anandian Ranjith Pandithage, distinguished Anandian from the finance community Deva Rodrigo, distinguished Anandian from the legal community Prashantha Lal de Alwis, the executive president of the OBA Bimal Wijayasinghe and the president of the Old Anandians Sports Club Amitha Munasinghe.
